In Other Words

You meet so often and feel THOSE feelings again and again. You’re feeling secure because you’ve been told you can count on it continuing. It’s that lovin’ feelin’. That which you can’t explain, you feel its love. You’re happy. Despite being the first, you say at the height of that feeling, “I love you.” It comes right out of your mouth smooth as butter.

He/She objects too fast, knee-jerk style. The excuse is, “Its too early.” You shouldn’t say that.

But it’s the way you feel. If you let this one go, the weird feelings are going to start. You would have to suppress your feelings.

What to do?

When this happened to me, I stood my ground. After all, these are my true feelings, nothing more powerful than the truth. So I said, “Well, I will have to find other words to say the same thing.”

The next time we had an intimate moment (having dinner in a public restaurant) as I felt that feeling again, I said, “Wait, I haven’t yet figured out other words to say.

To which he said, “You don’t have to, go ahead and say it.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too”

I felt the air lift in the room. From that moment on, we say “I love you” whenever we feel like it.

It keeps the feeling alive.
